It\u2019s well known that French girls love their vintage clothing, and while there are numerous vintage clothing stores in Paris, the massive amount of goods for sale can feel overwhelming! It often feels like you have to dig through 100 pieces just to find one that you like and fits you well. So, the savvy French girl looks to smaller, well-curated vintage shops to discover an edited selection of amazing vintage clothing to add to her wardrobe.<\/p>\n

One of the most popular vintage shops on Instagram is Gavroche Vintage<\/a>. I came across Gavroche after seeing so many French influencers tag the brand on Instagram. I decided to meet up with the founder, French girl Lucie Rose Mah\u00e9<\/a> to chat about her vision and inspiration for the vintage brand she created. Lucie and I recently met in her home neighborhood, Montmartre, to do a quick shoot and chat about her vision for the store. <\/p>\n

Aujourd’hui je porte un chemisier vintage que j’ai chin\u00e9, je l’adore! Une veste \u00e0 carreaux de chez Hackesch, un jeans de chez Mango, un manteau et des chaussures de chez & Other Stories et un sac Fendi vintage que j’ai \u00e9galement chin\u00e9. Mes lunettes de soleil sont de chez C\u00e9line! <\/p>\n

Est-ce que tu es d\u2019origine Parisienne? Sinon, qu’est-ce que tu fais ici \u00e0 Paris?<\/h3>\n

Non je ne suis pas n\u00e9e \u00e0 Paris, je suis n\u00e9e en Normandie mais j’y suis partie \u00e0 l’\u00e2ge de 8 ans pour ensuite vivre dans le sud de la France (Cahors puis Toulouse). Je suis arriv\u00e9e \u00e0 Paris en 2013 pour finaliser mes \u00e9tudes de mode et int\u00e9grer l’\u00e9cole de stylisme Studio Ber\u00e7ot.<\/p>\n

Comment as-tu eu l’id\u00e9e de cr\u00e9er Gavroche Vintage?<\/h3>\n

L’id\u00e9e de cr\u00e9er Gavroche Vintage m’est venue lors d’un retour de week-end, on \u00e9tait en voiture avec mon copain, et je venais de d\u00e9missionner de mon travail et je cherchais vraiment quelque chose ou je pourrais m’\u00e9panouir, quelque chose que je sais bien faire… Je chine depuis que j’ai 16 ans environ, j’ai toujours aim\u00e9 \u00e7a! Quand j’ai cr\u00e9\u00e9 Gavroche Vintage en mai 2018, il y avait seulement 1 ou 2 shop vintage sur Insta de vraiment bien, je me suis dis qu’il y avait un potentiel \u00e0 exploiter! Mon copain m’a \u00e9norm\u00e9ment pouss\u00e9 \u00e0 cr\u00e9er mon label, je me suis donc lanc\u00e9!<\/p>\n

Qu\u2019est-ce que c\u2019est ta vision pour Gavroche? Qui est la femme qui porte Gavroche?<\/h3>\n

Gavroche va s’agrandir, je suis en ce moment m\u00eame en train de cr\u00e9er l’e-shop avec mon amie Ananda (qui m’aide car je suis nul en informatique…), je pense qu’il sera pr\u00eat mi-avril! Et apr\u00e8s j’esp\u00e8re pouvoir prendre une assistante stagiaire pour m’aider au quotidien. Si j’ai plus de temps j’aimerai aussi chiner de la d\u00e9co!<\/p>\n

Je n’ai pas de cliente typique avec Gavroche, juste des femmes qui aime le vintage! Justement c’est vraiment cool de voir que pleins de femmes diff\u00e9rentes ach\u00e8tent du Gavroche!<\/p>\n

Quelles sont tes crit\u00e8res pour choisir les v\u00eatements qui seront vendu \u00e0 Gavroche? Sans nous donner tous tes secrets, o\u00f9 est-ce que on peut trouver une si bonne s\u00e9lection de vintage \u00e0 Paris?<\/h3>\n

Je choisis toujours<\/em> des pi\u00e8ces que j’aime! Je ne peux pas acheter une pi\u00e8ce que je trouve “passable” car je n’arriverai pas \u00e0 la styliser. Et j’aime faire porter des pi\u00e8ces vraiment cool \u00e0 mes mod\u00e8les, elles se sentent bien avec et elles ont confiance en elles pendant le shooting. J’ai d’ailleurs quelques pi\u00e8ces qui sont rest\u00e9es au fond du placard car finalement je les trouve pas assez bien pour Gavroche!<\/p>\n

Pour ce qui est des lieux o\u00f9 chiner, je chine dans tout Paris, parfois sur internet ou en province quand je peux mais c’est plus rare. Pour les adresses, je les garde pour moi bien \u00e9videmment \ud83d\ude09 <\/p>\n

Comment d\u00e9cris-tu ton style quotidien?<\/h3>\n

Je porte souvent des jeans, de toute forme! M\u00eame si mon pr\u00e9f\u00e9r\u00e9 reste le Bastille de chez Rouje! J’adore les Levi’s vintage mais j’en ai qu’un au final qui me va parfaitement! Pour le printemps j’aime porter des belles chemises ou blouses, avec un blazer ou un cardigan vintage en maille. Je suis assez girly, j’aime les pi\u00e8ces “mignonnes” et le rose! Je porte aussi beaucoup de robes et jupes, c’est sexy les jambes d’une fille, il faut les montrer! En chaussures je porte la plupart du temps des talons, une jambe galb\u00e9e c’est plus jolie! Des bottines en hiver et pour les beaux jours, des babies ou des escarpins (je viens de craquer pour des By Far), en \u00e9t\u00e9 je porte des espadrilles compens\u00e9es de chez Casta\u00f1er et des sandales \u00e0 petits talons. J’accessoirise le tout avec un pendentif, c’est rare que je ne porte rien au cou, une ou deux bagues et une montre.<\/p>\n

Quelles sont tes \u00ab essentiels \u00bb garde de robe?<\/h3>\n

Je pense qu’il faut avoir LE bon jeans ou l’on se sent sexy dedans, une belle chemise en soie basique, un blazer imprim\u00e9 (j’adore mon YSL et Valentino vintage que j’ai chin\u00e9), une mini jupe noir en hiver (une Burberry vintage que ma meilleure amie Laura m’a chin\u00e9), des belles robes imprim\u00e9es dans les tons pastel pour cet \u00e9t\u00e9, quelques belles mailles originales (j’ai un cardigan rose en angora vintage que j’adore!), beaucoup de chaussures diff\u00e9rentes et un sac de cr\u00e9ateur (que l’on ach\u00e8te en second-hand ou vintage pour pas se ruiner!)<\/p>\n

Quelles sont tes \u00ab essentiels \u00bb de beaut\u00e9?<\/h3>\n

J’ai test\u00e9 beaucoup de produits beaut\u00e9, j’aime beaucoup la gamme Resultime, j’utilise la cr\u00e8me d\u00e9salt\u00e9rante aux 3 acides hyaluroniques (matin et soir) que je mets au frigo (l’effet frais d\u00e9congestionne la peau), le masque super repulpant et l’exfoliant microdermabrasion (les deux, deux fois\/semaine).<\/p>\n

J’ai pu tester les produits de chez Oh my cream qui sont aussi tr\u00e8s bien, apr\u00e8s ma cr\u00e8me j’applique deux goutes d’huile repulpante, elle sent bon et hydrate bien. Je me d\u00e9maquille avec la solution micellaire Bioderma peau sensible, un basique!<\/p>\n

C\u00f4t\u00e9 make-up je fais le m\u00eame le jour et le soir, je n’aime pas beaucoup me maquiller pour sortir le soir! C’est donc toujours du mascara noir, le Hypn\u00f4se Drama de chez Lanc\u00f4me est top! Je mets du fond de teint de chez Lanc\u00f4me \u00e9galement avec une poudre libre transparente de chez Make Up Forever avec une touche de blush ou de terra-cotta quand j’ai la mine grise! Et bien sure du rouge \u00e0 l\u00e8vres! J’aime le porter mat, de chez Mac ou Chanel. Pour les cheveux je vais faire mon balayage chez David Lucas et j’utilise des produits professionnels pour les entretenir, masque \u00e0 chaque shampoing!<\/p>\n

Qu’est-ce que c’est le \u00ab style fran\u00e7ais \u00bb pour toi?<\/h3>\n

Le style fran\u00e7ais… l’\u00e9l\u00e9gance chic et naturelle!<\/p>\n

C\u2019est quoi la tenue typique pour toi dans ces situations:<\/h3>\n

  • Un lundi au travail<\/strong>: \u00c9tant \u00e0 mon compte je n’ai pas de tenue de travail, je m’habille suivant ce que je vais faire la journ\u00e9e, pour chiner c’est des baskets ou chaussures plates car je marche beaucoup. Si je vais shooter je pr\u00e9vois un look plus habill\u00e9 et travaill\u00e9, tout look est r\u00e9fl\u00e9chi, on va pas se mentir!<\/li>\n
  • Un samedi avec tes amis<\/strong>: Le samedi je shoot souvent pour Gavroche et pour moi donc je pr\u00e9vois une tenue cool, c’est compl\u00e8tement al\u00e9atoire! <\/li>\n
  • La premi\u00e8re rencontre avec un amoureux potentiel<\/strong>: J’ai d\u00e9j\u00e0 un amoureux, quand on sort le soir ensemble j’aime me sentir belle, un peu sexy et chic! C’est important de toujours vouloir le s\u00e9duire comme si c’\u00e9tait le premier date, je pense que c’est en partie comme \u00e7a que la flamme perdure! Et je mets toujours des talons, bannissez les baskets!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    O\u00f9 est-ce que tu trouves l’inspiration pour tes tenues?<\/h3>\n

    Un peu partout, sur instagram, muse num\u00e9ro un depuis 10 ans, Alexa Chung! Elle est parfaite, avant gardiste et tellement chic! Dans la rue, les films et chez mes amies!<\/p>\n

    O\u00f9 pr\u00e9f\u00e8res-tu faire du shopping \u00e0 Paris ou en France?<\/h3>\n

    J’ach\u00e8te beaucoup de vintage et second-hand comme vous l’aurez compris, pour le reste j’aime bien &other stories, quelques pi\u00e8ces de chez Mango et Rouje. J’adore les marque Reformation et By Far, un peu ch\u00e8re, j’essaye de les acheter en second-hand sur Vestiaire Co!<\/p>\n

    Qu’est-ce tu aimes le plus de la vie \u00e0 Paris?<\/h3>\n

    Ce que j’adore \u00e0 Paris c’est tout d’abord mon quartier, j’ai la chance de vivre \u00e0 Montmartre et d’avoir ce coin de tranquillit\u00e9 sans les grands boulevards et trop de circulation! J’aime beaucoup prendre des caf\u00e9s en terrasse avec mes amies, fl\u00e2ner la t\u00eate en l’air, rep\u00e9rer des lieux pour shooter, chiner et promener mon chien Opio! <\/p>\n

    Diner avec mon amoureux \u00e0 la Buvette, dansez au Bourbon ou au Palace avec mes meilleures amies!<\/p>\n

    Ta meilleure copine vient \u00e0 Paris pour la journ\u00e9e. O\u00f9 l\u2019emm\u00e8nes-tu ?<\/h3>\n

    J’ai une de mes meilleures amies qui vient vivre \u00e0 Paris dans deux semaines! J’ai tellement h\u00e2te! Je lui ferai visiter Montmartre bien \u00e9videment, le matin on ira prendre le petit d\u00e9jeuner au Vrai Paris<\/strong>, on se baladera pour ensuite d\u00e9jeuner \u00e0 la Bossue<\/strong> et faire un peu de shopping dans le centre de Paris l’apr\u00e8s midi. On remontera dans le 18\u00e8me prendre un verre au Terrasse Hotel<\/strong> pour la vue Tour Eiffel, une pizza chez El Brigante<\/strong> et si il nous reste de l’\u00e9nergie on ira danser \ud83d\ude09 <\/p>\n

    Tell me what you\u2019re wearing today!<\/h3>\n

    Today I’m wearing a white vintage blouse I thrifted; I love it! A plaid jacket from Hackesch, black Mango jeans, coat and shoes from & Other Stories and a vintage Fendi bag that I also thrifted. My sunglasses are from C\u00e9line! <\/p>\n

    Are you from Paris, and if not, what brought you here?<\/h3>\n

    Nope, I was not born in Paris. I was born in Normandy, but I left at 8 years old to live in the south of France (Cahors and Toulouse). I arrived in Paris in 2013 to finish my studies in fashion and to attend Studio Ber\u00e7ot styling school.<\/p>\n

    How did you come up with the idea to create Gavroche Vintage?<\/h3>\n

    The idea of creating Gavroche Vintage came to me on the way back from a weekend away. I was driving with my boyfriend and I had just quit my job and I was really looking for something where I could blossom, something I know how to do well… I’ve been thrifting since I was about 16 years old and I’ve always loved it! When I launched Gavroche Vintage in May 2018, there were only 1 or 2 really good vintage shops on Instagram and I thought there was a potential to take advantage of this opportunity. My boyfriend pushed me a lot to create my label, so I started!<\/p>\n

    What is your vision for Gavroche? Who is the woman who wears it?<\/h3>\n

    Gavroche is going to grow. I’m currently creating the e-shop with my friend Ananda, who helps me because I’m bad at technology… I think the site will be ready about mid-April! After, I hope to take an intern assistant to help me on a daily basis. If I have more time, I would also love to start thrifting furniture and decoration!<\/p>\n

    I do not have a typical customer with Gavroche, just women who love vintage! It’s really cool to see a lot of different women buying Gavroche.<\/p>\n

    What are your criteria for choosing the clothes that will be sold by Gavroche? Without giving us all<\/em> your secrets, where can we find such a good selection of vintage in Paris?<\/h3>\n

    I always<\/em> choose pieces that I love! I cannot buy a piece that I find “passable” because I will not be able to style it. I like to style really cool pieces on my models. They feel good with them on and they have confidence while wearing them during the shoot. I also have some pieces that are still at the bottom of my closet because in the end, they were not good enough for Gavroche!<\/p>\n

    As for places to thrift, I thrift in all of Paris, sometimes on the internet or in the countryside when I can, but not too often.<\/p>\n

    How would you describe your style?<\/h3>\n

    I often wear jeans of all shapes, even if my favorite is still the “Bastille” jean from Rouje. I love vintage Levi’s and I have one pair that suits me perfectly. For spring, I like to wear beautiful shirts or blouses, with a blazer or vintage knit cardigan. I’m pretty girly, I like “cute” pieces and pink! I also wear a lot of dresses and skirts because us girls have sexy legs so you have to show them! As for shoes, I wear heels most often because a shapely leg is prettier! I wear boots in winter and on sunny days, low heels or pumps (lately I adore By Far). In the summer I wear espadrilles from Casta\u00f1er and sandals with small heels. I accessorize with a pendant necklace \u2013 it\u2019s rare that I wear nothing on my neck \u2013 one or two rings and a watch.<\/p>\n

    What are your wardrobe essentials?<\/h3>\n

    I think you have to have the right jeans that you feel sexy in, a nice basic silk shirt, a printed blazer (I love my vintage YSL and Valentino blazers that I thrifted), a black mini skirt for winter (I own a vintage Burberry one my best friend Laura thrifted for me), beautiful patterned dresses in pastel shades for this summer, a few beautiful knits (I have a vintage pink angora cardigan that I love!), many different shoes and a designer bag (bought second-hand or vintage of course!).<\/p>\n

    What are your beauty essentials?<\/h3>\n

    I have tested a lot of beauty products and I really like the Resultime product line. I use the Resultime Hydrating Cream with 3 hyaluronic acids (morning and evening) which I keep in the fridge (the cool effect decongests the skin), the Super Plumping Mask and the exfoliating Microdermabrasion Scrub (both twice per week). <\/p>\n

    I was able to test the products of Oh my cream which are also very good. After my cream, I apply two drops of plumping oil; it smells good and moisturizes well. I remove makeup with the Bioderma Micellar water for sensitive skin, a must-have basic!<\/p>\n

    As for make-up, I do the same thing during the day and in the evening. I don\u2019t like putting on a ton of makeup to go out at night! So for me it’s always black mascara \u2013 Hypn\u00f4se Drama from Lanc\u00f4me is the best! I wear Lanc\u00f4me foundation with Super Matte Loose Powder from Make Up Forever, and a touch of blush or terra-cotta when I look too gray! And of course lipstick! I like wearing matte lipstick from Mac or Chanel. For my hair, I have my highlights done at David Lucas and I use professional products to maintain them, including a hair mask with each shampoo!<\/p>\n

    What is the \u201cFrench style\u201d to you?<\/h3>\n

    The French style is… chic and natural elegance!<\/p>\n

    What is your typical outfit in these situations:<\/h3>\n
      \n
    • Monday at work<\/strong>: Having my own brand, I don\u2019t have a \u201cwork\u201d outfit. What I wear follows what I will do during the day. To go thrift shopping, it\u2019s usually sneakers or flat shoes because I walk a lot. If I\u2019m going to shoot, I might dress up a little more. Ever look is thought-out, I won\u2019t lie! <\/li>\n
    • Saturday with friends<\/strong>: I shoot photos pretty often on Saturdays for Gavroche so I usually wear a cool outfit, but it\u2019s completely random! <\/li>\n
    • On a first date<\/strong>: I already have a boyfriend, and when we go out, I love to feel beautiful \u2013 a little sexy and chic. It\u2019s important to always be seductive as if it were the first date. I think this is part of the right way to keep the flame burning! Going out, I always put heels on, never sneakers!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

      Where do you find outfit inspiration? <\/h3>\n

      A little bit everywhere! On Instagram, and from my number one muse for 10 years now \u2013 Alexa Chung! She is perfect, avant-garde and so chic! Also in the street, in films and from my friends!<\/p>\n

      Where do you prefer to shop in Paris (or France)?<\/h3>\n

      I buy a lot of vintage and second-hand as you know already, and for the rest I love & Other Stories, some pieces from Mango, and Rouje. I adore the brands Reformation and By Far which are a little expensive, but I try to buy them second-hand on Vestiaire Co! <\/p>\n

      What do you love most about living in Paris?<\/h3>\n

      What I love about Paris is first of all my neighborhood! I am lucky to live in Montmartre and to enjoy this peaceful corner of the city without the big boulevards and too much traffic! I really love to have coffee on the sidewalk terraces with my friends, walk around aimlessly in the fresh air, spot cool places to shoot, go thrift shopping and walk my dog Opio!<\/p>\n

      I love having dinner with my boyfriend at Buvette, and dancing at Bourbon or at the Palace with my best friends!<\/p>\n

      Your best friend is coming to Paris for the day \u2013 where do you take her?<\/h3>\n

      I actually have one of my best friends who is coming to live in Paris in two weeks and I can\u2019t wait! I will definitely take her to visit Montmartre, of course. In the morning, we will have breakfast at Le Vrai Paris<\/strong>, then we will walk around and have lunch at La Bossue<\/strong> and do some shopping in the center of Paris in the afternoon. We will go back to the 18th arrondissement to have a drink at the Terrace Hotel<\/strong> for the Eiffel Tower view, a pizza at El Brigante<\/strong> and if we still have enough energy, we will go
